What are Dermal Fillers?
At The Medical Skin Clinic, we offer a variety of FDA-approved dermal fillers comprised of hyaluronic acid clear gel that closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that naturally occurs in our body. The result of dermal filler injections is very natural looking, long lasting and non-permanent plumping of targeted areas of the face or hands.
Each of the dermal fillers are designed for a particular treatment area on your face so moderate to severe wrinkles and folds can be effectively treated with the product that is best suited to the area we are looking to correct.
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
Lines, wrinkles and loss of tone develop as we age due to environmental exposure and the natural aging process. We are born with an abundance of collagen in our skin, but the body’s production of collagen slows in our mid-to-late 20’s and continues to decrease dramatically after age 30. From there, the collagen levels in our skin begin to drop by 1-2% each year.
Dermal fillers can temporarily undo the damage of age-related changes and stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. Using tiny needles, dermal filler is injected under the skin where it increases areas of loss and gives the face a fresher, smoother appearance.
- Nasal labial folds
- Thinning/flat lips
- Lines around the mouth
- Hollowed/sagging cheeks
- Facial wrinkles and folds
- Loss of volume in hands
In cases where the patient has multiple aesthetic issues they would like to address, dermal filler injections can be combined or performed in conjunction with other treatments. For instance, if the patient is interested in getting rid of their crow’s feet and restoring the full and youthful appearance of their cheeks, they can receive both Botox® and dermal filler injections.

What to Expect
The exact length of your treatment will vary based on the amount of areas being treated and the amount of the product required to achieve the desired results. In order to ensure the treatment is as comfortable as possible, a topical anesthetic can be applied to the face to numb the area prior to the injections.
Dermal fillers provide noticeable results right away, and these results should continue to improve over time as new collagen is produced in the skin tissues.
Some redness and puffiness may occur around the injection sites following the treatment but should dissipate over the next few days. The length of the results will vary depending on the specific product being used. Some can provide results that last for around six months, while others may last for a year or more.
